The Power of Human Connection

My family and I recently spent a weekend in Michigan with family and friends and it was so wonderful. This weekend has become a tradition that we carve our time for every Fall. Most of us lead very busy lives and it's amazing how days turn into weeks and weeks turn into months and before you know it, so much time has flown by without making time to see the people we care about; but finding ways to slow down and to connect to loved ones is so important.

Did you know that hospice workers have been interviewed about what people say at the end of their lives? Can you guess what overwhelmingly is the most common thing people wish for and talk about at end of life?

It’s not work, it’s not money — it’s relationships.

People wish they'd spent more time with the people they love. Most of us know this rationally but our behavior does not often reflect this value.

Human connection is what it’s all about. It’s what we crave and what leaves meaning. It’s also the thing we neglect when life gets busy.

Try to be mindful of your choices. Life gets hectic and we have to be intentional about slowing down; this can be tough in a culture that encourages and praises “busy”. Making the time is so worth it!

If you feel like you're struggling to prioritize the things that are important to you or that your behavior doesn't reflect what truly makes you happy, please feel free to reach out; therapy could make a big difference.
